zebos_barLooking for a late night spot that has tasty drinks, tastier food and is always entertaining? Zebos Wine Bar and Restaurant is consistently on the money in all three of these departments. Come for the fresh, seasonal food, and stay for the award-winning wine list and live music featured almost every weekend. Zebos recently received the Wine Spectator Award of excellence, one of 3,000 awards given to restaurants worldwide for their outstanding wine lists. Of these 3,000 awards, SIX were awarded to restaurants on St. Croix. Crucians really lucked out with the fabulous restaurants and wines served on island. I love trying out new wines when I go to a restaurant; I might not be a wine expert, but I know what I like! The bartenders and waitstaff at Zebos take a weekly wine class and can always recommend something if you’re a wine novice, or even a wine connoisseur.

This Saturday, I headed over to Zebos to see one of my favorite local bands, The Politricks. A blend of reggae-rock-funk, this trio plays great covers in addition to their own originals-I love the song “Morning Light,” and their version of Beck’s “Deborah” is second to none (lead singer Sebastian Franks hits all those high notes!) The Politicks play Zebos regularly as well as The Fort Christian Brew Pub, Rhythms at Rainbow Beach and Off the Wall, just to name a few spots. Zebos also regularly features salsa band Siete Son, reggae group STX and guitarist Kurt Schindler.

Zebos_wineOf course, I needed to fuel up for the dance floor with a lentil-walnut burger and a glass of Seghesio Zinfandel. Zebos serves a late night menu until 12 am on Fridays and Saturdays and their kitchen is open until 10 pm the rest of the week. My friends Lauren and Jeff tried the Himalayan salt block ceviche, and the breadfruit tostada with chicken, feta and local greens, and they said both were delicious. Zebos_dance

Afterwards, we hit the dance floor and stayed there all night. Overall, it was a great, laid-back evening with good friends, good food and great music.
