For those of you still doing Christmas shopping, here’s a great idea for a gift for someone who loves the Virgin Islands, whether they are here or elsewhere. ‘Portraits of Paradise” is a new, gorgeous photography book by Daily News photographers Christian Simescu and Sean McCoy. Many of these photos have appeared in the newspaper at some point, and are a fantastic and accurate depiction of life in the Virgin Islands, including all of it’s natural beauty, vibrant culture, and wonderful people. My favorite section is about Carnival in the Virgin Islands– so many great photos of all the colorful costumes and revelry we enjoy so much every year.
