St. Croix is Pet Friendly
If you are one who likes to travel with your pet, or looking to move with your pet, you will find St. Croix very accommodating. Wherever you choose to stay- ask about their pet policy. Some places welcome your friendly pets, usually with a small fee. Look for this sign to indicate pet friendly accomodations.
There are no government quarantine rules for bringing your pets to St. Croix. You must get a Health Certificate from your veterinarian within 10 days of your flight indicating that your pet is current on vaccinations and has no known communicable diseases. Your cat or dog must have a rabies vaccine within 6 months prior to travel.

There is no reason to leave your pet at home while vacationing. Many St. Croix hotels offer pet services. Use our accommodation guide and look for the
sign.

Other animals require special permits and notification (like birds, ferrets, guniea pigs). Contact the Department of Agriculture to obtain a permit that must be mailed ahead of time. Click here to read more info.

Pets From Paradise
Save a Life - Escort a pet to its new U.S. home!
340-778-1650
Stcroixawc.org
Even if you're not going to adopt a pet, you can help save a life. It's easy. If you're traveling from St. Croix to New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Washington DC, or other U.S. destinations, you can become a travel partner for a St. Croix animal on his or her way to a home at one of our partner shelters in the U.S. mainland. The pets we send to the United States are very much in demand, as many of our partner shelters have a waiting list of families seeking a specific type of dog or cat (that we have too many of). All of the travel coordination is provided by AWC. With enough advance notice from you (at least 10 days), we can make all the arrangements - all you need to do is meet us at the airport on St. Croix before departing, and meet a representative at the airport when you arrive back home. Together we'll save a pet's life and get it closer to its new adoptive home! Here's what to do:
- Contact St. Croix AWC (a list of states with partnering shelters is updated on their website)
- Provide your return flight information, number of travelers-including all connections and
times- and final destination
- Our staff will make reservations with the partner shelter
- Our staff will meet you at the St. Croix airport with the pet
- Partner shelter's staff will meet you at the final destination airport.
If you are interested in finding out more about Pets From Paradise, or perhaps you are affiliated with a shelter we don't yet work with, or want to adopt a pet for yourself, please visit our website for details. Donations can be made to support this program, which helps pay for the health certificate, travel fees with airlines, and other costs. Thank you for helping to sponsor a St. Croix animal, they make such wonderful pets!

REMEMBER:
we do not have snakes on St. Croix, and want to keep it that way. Snakes
are not allowed to be transported to St. Croix.
You should check with your airline carrier for their policy regarding
pets on the plane. For the most part, there are certain times of the year
when larger pets cannot be in cargo because the temperature is either
too hot or too cold. The airlines require you give them notice and there
is a charge.
If you are moving
with your pet, there are very competent veterinarians on island to take
your animals to. Please be advised that because of the climate, it is
highly recommended that you keep your animal on a persistent heartworm
and flea/tick preventative. The diseases that they cause are extremely
preventable, but expensive to cure and even deadly.
Remember - there are
turtle nesting beaches on St. Croix where dogs are not permitted. Please
obey all signs and requests to help protect the turtles. If you take your
dog hiking or walking with you- remember that he needs water, too! Dogs
must be leashed at all times in the National Parks and Health Department
regulations do not allow dogs in eating establishments.
