St. Croix International Ironman Triathlon 70.3

This annual triathlon draws the finest array of professional athletes from all over the world. The St. Croix Ironman combines the beauty of the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands with the challenge of an unforgettable course. The St. Croix Ironman consists of a 1.24 mile swim through Christiansted Harbor, a 13.1 mile bike ride though the scenic west end and up the notorious Beast, and a 56 mile run that loops athletes to the east end of the island and back to Christiansted for a total of 70.3 miles of athletic endurance. This race traditionally takes place the first Sunday in May and is a qualifying event for the Ironman that takes place in Hawaii. Please click on the thumbnails below to see images from past events.

  • Be a part of the 4th Annual GoToStCroix.com Triathlon Group Photo, which takes place on Friday, May 2 at 5:30 pm.  Right before Carb Fest AND Jump Up!
  • The first leg of the triathlon is the swim, which begins at Protestant Cay in Christiansted Harbor.
  • The athletes begin the swim in "waves" by age and gender.
  • The swim is 1.24 miles through the warm waters of Christiansted Harbor.
  • Supporters gather at the swim finish to cheer on the athletes (arrive early for the best view)!
  • The second leg of the triathlon is the bike race, which takes the atheletes along the beautiful North Shore and up The Beast!
  • The lawn of Fort Christianvern is covered in bikes waiting for their riders.
  • The 13.1 mile bike ride takes athletes along the scenic west end of St. Croix.
  • Supporters gather to cheer on the athletes.
  • Go! Go! Go!
  • Taking place at the same time is the Caribbean Classic Triathlon, where you can have the Beauty with out the Beast!
  • The course takes atheltes through the streets of historic Christiansted.
  • The Run. A double loop that takes athletes out east and along south shore.
  • Race supporters line the entire course to cheer on friends and family.
  • Teams of volunteers man the water distribution spots.  Volunteers also pick up the water bottles along the course to keep our island clean!
  • Athletes come from all over the world to participate in this qualifying event for the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii.
  • This runner gets a cool down with a wet sponge.
  • Athletes train all year to be a part of the St. Croix Ironman.
  •  FINALLY!  The finish line back in Christiansted.
  • Awards are given to both the male and females with the best qualifying times.  Don't miss your opportunity to be a part of the race or support the athletes along the race course.
