Children’s Parade Mask Making Series
For the first time CMCArts will participate in the Children’s Day Parade! Participants age 12-18 will create masks for our troupe in this after-school series. The same students can join us on the road for parade day or opt for another participant to wear their mask.
Kenneth A. Melendez from Puerto Rico will be the artist-in-resident in October. He will lead the participants in the mask making series. Melendez enjoys creating traditional masks with diverse materials, such as: burlap, coconut, wood, royal palm, paper Mache, gourd, foam, plastic, and wire mesh. In 2019 Melendez worked with Central High School students to create mask and bigheads.
We can’t wait to see what the participants and Melendez create for the first CMCArts troupe!
