Hike to Annaly Bay Tide Pools
ALERT : Please consider going with a trained guide as the terrain can be quite precarious. Be sure to check the wind and sea conditions before taking this adventure.
This beautiful hike is approximately 2 miles each way, with the trail beginning at Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort. The resort gate guard will direct you where to park and where the trail begins. Bring lots of water and wear proper hiking shoes as terrain can be rough, rocky, and/or muddy in some areas. The trail winds through lush rainforest-like vegetation, with millipedes, hermit crabs and larger-than-life botanicals, and offers breathtaking glimpses over Carambola and the Caribbean Sea. Then, it opens to waist high grass leading down to the black rock beach. The trail at this time can be very difficult to follow, so watch your step and look for any markings. Once the trail opens to the water, go left along the beach, and wind your way around the rocks, where you will then see an amazing naturally-formed tide pool. When the swells are just right, the sea crashes over the rock wall and cascades down into the pool.
Please treat the area with respect. There are no facilities or trash receptacles, so if you bring it in please take it out. Also, bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection.
CAUTION: Sometimes the tide is high and you take a risk winding around the rocks through the water to reach the actual pools. The rock walls that surround the pools are VERY sharp and pointy; again, please make sure to wear appropriate shoes or rubber soled water socks.
