Our guided excursions traverse along mountainous trails above the West End and descend through the Sub-Tropical Rain Forest of St. Croix. Our tours last approximately 2 1/2 hours for daytime tours and 3 hours for our sunset tours and cover 15 miles of St. Croix's diverse terrain. Bring your family and enjoy a true island adventure. Whether you're on a cruise or staying on the island, our tours offer rich history and interaction with St. Croix. We recommend starting your visit with our tours for a great overview of what to see and do.
Gecko’s Original ATV Tour
This 2-hour, 15-mile tour lets you drive an ATV through tropical terrain, starting in Frederiksted. You'll explore the west end coastline, climb Mt. Stewart for panoramic views, and possibly visit 1700s plantation ruins. The tour ends back in Frederiksted. Drivers must be 18+ with a valid license; passengers must be 5+. Cost: $175 per driver, $50 per passenger. We limit the tour to 4 ATVs for a personalized experience. Note: This is a guided, scenic tour at controlled speeds (10-30 mph). If you're seeking high-speed thrills, this may not be for you.
Xpedition STX
Experience St. Croix in a rugged off-road vehicle with a knowledgeable guide. Explore the island’s Sub-Tropical Rainforest, historical sites, and learn about local culture, history, and wildlife. This 2-hour tour starts and ends in Frederiksted and is perfect for families and groups (up to 5 guests). Young explorers must be 5+, with a cost of $100 per person (10+ years) and $75 for ages 5-10. Limit of two young explorers per tour.
Sunset Tours
Choose our ATV or Xpedition STX Sunset Tour for a thrilling ride through the rainforest, ending with a beachside champagne toast as you watch the sunset. Capture stunning photos of the colorful sky. Guests under 18 can enjoy a non-alcoholic beverage.
Where are you located?
Gecko's Island Adventures is located on Customs House Street between King and Queen Streets in Downtown Frederiksted. A good point of reference is that we are located 2 1/2 blocks east of the cruise ship pier in downtown Frederiksted.
When are you open?
Our days and hours of operation vary for different times of the year. Check our reservations page for available dates and times. We are usually open on cruise ship days, so please do not hesitate to call or make a reservation online.

Is there an age limit?
Yes. 5 and up to ride at guide's discretion. Children must be able to hold on unassisted and stay awake for the full tour. Any child under 18 will be required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The minimum age to drive an ATV is 18 years with a valid driver’s license. All drivers under the age of 22 must present a valid, government issued driver’s license at check-in. Photos of driver’s licenses will not be accepted.
Is there a weight limit?
All our ATV's have a maximum weight capacity of 450 lbs. This is for the driver and passenger combined. ***You may be weighed at check-in***
What if we have an odd number of people?
If there is an odd number of people with children under the driving age, we can arrange for the child to ride with our guide for a charge of $50.00. (i.e. 2 adults, 3 children). The maximum
weight of anyone riding with one of our guides is 200 lbs.
If the odd number includes enough drivers to have the children ride with them, then you will need to purchase machines for all drivers. (i.e., 3 adults, 2 children)
Can I book this onboard my cruise ship?
No, Gecko's does not participate in the onboard booking of shore excursions. We pass the savings to our customers by not charging the cruise ship fees.
Do I need a reservation?
Yes. Whether you are vacationing on the island or visiting by cruise ship for the day, making an online reservation is required. We are only in the office if we have tours running.
What if I want to cancel my reservation?
There is a 48 Hour cancellation or rescheduling policy for all reservations. If a cancellation or reschedule request is made less than 48 hours prior to your tour, no refunds or reschedules will be allowed.
What type of ATV's do you have?
We use Polaris Sportsman 570 touring machines. These ATV's are designed, built, and rated for two passengers and provide a comfortable ride for both. A strict 450-pound limit per machine is
enforced.
Do I need any experience to ride?
No, many of our guests have no prior ATV experience. These machines are fully automatic and simple to drive. You will receive detailed safety information as well as instruction on the operation of the ATV before leaving the starting point. With that said, please understand that it is not an easy tour. You must be able to handle difficult terrain and keep up with the group.
How should I dress/What should I bring?
Dress comfortably in clothes that are OK to get dirty. Also, dress for the weather. Rain showers are common in the Caribbean but pose no threat to our tours. CLOSED TOED SHOES and EYE PROTECTION are REQUIRED! Bring your camera, sunglasses or eye protection, sunscreen, and water. We also recommend a bandana (for dirt and dust)(sports drinks, bottled water, bandanas, and sunscreen are available for purchase.) For our Sunset Tours, we recommend bringing bug spray for our stop on the beach.
What if I am pregnant?
It is entirely your decision. The trails that we are riding on are extremely rough, keep in mind, we are on ATV's. Consult your physician if you have any concerns.
