Salt River Beach is located on Salt River Bay on the North Shore of St. Croix. Many kayak tours come in and out of here, and it is especially beautiful on a full moon. Dive tours are also available out of Salt River Bay since the bay offers great diving of underwater canyons teeming with marine life. Both the beach and bay are protected by The Nature Conservatory and are well worth the visit. Salt River Bay protects a diverse ecological area, including saltwater ponds, freshwater marshes, coral reefs and the largest remaining mangrove forest in the USVI, not to mention species of endangered birds and turtles.

DETAILS

This beach is located just around the point from Columbus Landing, and falls within the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve, which is managed by the National Park Service.

DIRECTIONS

Take North Shore Road (Route 80) and turn into the gate marked for Salt River Marina, then drive past the marina office and watersports shops all the way through the marina to park for access to the beach.

RESTRICTIONS

None. However, the NPS recommends the following:

• Wear reef-safe sunscreen/sun protection.
• Be aware of marine hazards like crosscurrents, surf conditions, and shallow reefs.
• Stay on the beach or designated paths to avoid hazardous vegetation.
