Frederiksted Pier, formally the Ann E. Abramson Pier and Marine Facility, is one of St. Croix’s most iconic sites. The pier is located in the heart of Frederiksted town on the West End. The Frederiksted Pier as it stands now was constructed in the early 1900s. In the early 2000s, a multi-million dollar revitalization of the waterfront park and pier transformed the historic Frederiksted waterfront and pier. As a result, it became the charming port it is today.
The Ann E. Abramson Pier and Marine Facility is the only cruise ship port on St. Croix. The 1,526-foot pier has drafts of 29 feet on the north and 36 feet on the south side of the pier. The dock can accommodate Voyager-Class vessels on the south berth. In addition, it welcomes smaller cruise ships on the north berth.
Diving and Snorkeling the Frederiksted Pier
The pier is a popular destination for diving enthusiasts and snorkeling, as well as being the embarkation point for sunset sails, watersports and dive charters. However, access to the pier is restricted when there is a cruise ship in port. At those times, only ship passengers and crew are allowed onto the pier. Snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming around the pier are not allowed when there is a ship docked. This is both for the public’s safety and for the security of the ship.
