Point Udall is located on the East End of St. Croix. It is known for being the easternmost point in the United States. Atop Point Udall is a towering sundial known as the Millennium Monument. It’s a fantastic place to spend some time exploring monument. You can also take in the vastness of the ocean views and the ever-changing colors of the sky. The drive to this east end monument is just as breathtaking. You’ll drive alongside the multi-blue, reef-laden waters. At sunrise, this is a popular place for visitors and residents. They gather to watch the sunrise and greet the new day. This is especially true on New Year’s morning. Point Udall is also a great spot for stargazing!
The Millennium Monument
The Millennium Monument was built for the New Year’s celebration in 2000. It marks the azimuth of the first sunrise of the new millennium to touch American soil. As you arrive at “the point” you encounter the monument. This is actually a large sundial and even more breathtaking views. There is no admission charge to for the monument. Point Udall was named for Stewart Udall, who served as Secretary of the Interior from 1961 to 1969 under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. This was to honor his work to support the economy of the island group.
