About Grapetree Hotel
Grapetree Bay Hotel & Villas was an iconic resort on St. Croix during its original heyday in the late 1960s. Know for its secluded location on the East End of St. Croix, as well as its beachfront pool and restaurant overlooking Grapetree Bay. The resort also featured original frescoes produced by French artist Daniel Buren who lived on St. Croix for a year in 1965. Unfortunately, the hotel property was all but destroyed during Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and spent the next 30 years deteriorating.
Now, Grapetree Bay Hotel has been given new life. The newly-renovated 18 room hotel reopened in 2021, and the seaside villas are being renovated, with the first ones now available for booking. The pool and poolside bar are now open on weekends, as is the Sea Terrace Restaurant. While much of the original frescoes were lost during Hurricane Hugo, the Grapetree Bay Hotel buildings now feature beautiful marine life murals by local artist Barbara Gelardi.
