At Down South Charters, our top priority is to create lifelong memories and excitement. We offer 'Choose Your Own Adventure' charters with snorkeling, beach time, and ecology/history tours, as well as sunset cruises, crossing to explore St. Thomas and St. John, and fishing charters. We want to share our passion and knowledge of what the marine world has to offer, as well as the beautiful culture of St. Croix and the US Virgin Islands. Choose Your Own Adventure
Down South Charters is much more than just a fishing company. Our passion extends to everything nature related. If you enjoy seeing what is under the waves just as much as above the surface, we are happy to customize a trip for you that includes a variety of activities. We can take a dip or 'lime out' at any one of St. Croix’s many beautiful reefs or beaches. Cruising out west is a great option on the 6 and 8 hour trips, where you can enjoy snorkeling with friendly turtles at the Frederiksted pier or spending time on the wonderful beach at Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge (site of filming for Shawshank Redemption closing scene). We can tour Salt River for an ecology/photography session and learn some of the vibrant history of St. Croix. Try your hand at spearing some invasive, yet delicious, lionfish or snaring Caribbean Spiny Lobsters to take home for dinner if you are into freediving. The possibilities are endless, so please let us know how we can customize a trip to fit your perfect day on the water. Choose a 4, 6 or 8 hour trip for up to 12 guests.
Crossing Charters (St. Thomas and St. John)
Are you interested in exploring our neighboring islands of St. Thomas and St. John? They are approximately 40 miles to our north and well within reach of our 36’ Yellowfin, 'Love Alone'. Your itinerary may include snorkeling with the turtles at Maho Bay, beach time, grabbing some pizza at Pizza π, or visiting the floating taco bar at Lime Out VI. You'll also enjoy the breathtaking views of the BVI with its 30+ islands. These trips allow enough time to cross and enjoy even more of what the US Virgin Islands has to offer. Trips are weather dependent and your captain will be in touch to confirm as your charter approaches. Choose an 8 or 10 hour charter for up to 12 guests.
Fishing Charters
When it comes to catching fish, we get excited! Fishing is not just a hobby at Down South Charters, it is a lifelong pursuit of understanding what makes fish “tick”. Our professional experience includes multiple college degrees focused on fisheries biology, as well as decades of fishing knowledge in many different styles and areas. Our captains and crew are always learning, studying, and looking at new ways to improve the client experience. We love finding out about new fishing spots and keeping our ears to the ground to learn about what’s hot and effective. Our goal is ultimately to catch your trophy fish of a lifetime, but we will settle for teaching you some tricks, sending you home with sore arms, and creating experiences you will never forget. Choose from a 4 hour Half Day, a 6 hour Angler's Choice, or an 8 hour Marlin Trip for up to 12 guests.
Sunset Cruise
Whether you want to enjoy some romantic time with your partner or just have a few laughs with friends and family, the sunset cruise is a great way to kick off your evening. Enjoy the beauty of our serene Caribbean sunsets as we make our way along the coast or find a private cove to anchor. Relax to the max while you wind down and let your worries drift away. A 2 Hour cruise for up to 12 guests.
Our Boat
Down South Charters cruises in style on a 36’ Yellowfin Center Console. For guests who are not familiar with the difference a boat can make, the Yellowfin is in a league of its own. The ride is incomparable in the center console class, and she will keep you dry with her Carolina flare. 'Love Alone' was majorly refitted in 2021 and boasts new Triple 300HP Mercury V8s engines, upholstery, and extra seating to provide even more comfort. Join us and feel the difference for yourself!
Charter Details
- Our crew has over 10 years professionally guiding fishing and snorkeling tours, multiple degrees in fisheries biology, and decades of fishing/ diving knowledge
- First class equipment is provided, including Penn, Daiwa, and Shimano fishing gear, top of the line snorkeling masks, fins, and vests (including gear for the kids)
- Certifications onboard include: Emergency First Responder, CPR Certified, Advanced Open Water Diver, PFI Level 1 Freediver
- Please make sure to bring sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses since our charters can be a long day on the water. The charter will provide ice, coolers, and drinking water.
- 20% of the charter cost is due at the time of booking to secure the boat.
- Please note that the charter price does not include gratuity for the crew (industry standard is 15-25% of trip cost).
Captain Randy Brewington
I grew up in Middle Tennessee as a kid who couldn’t get enough of the outdoors. Backpacking, fishing, hunting, and playing sports as much as possible. My parents used to tell me that when I was young, after a heavy rain, I would want to fish in the rain puddles in the front yard (a sign of early obsession?). Tennessee will always hold a special place in my heart, but I have dreamt of the ocean for as long as I can remember. I was certified as an Open Water diver at 17 and became even more infatuated with this marine world. I made several dive trips down to the USVI and BVI with my uncle and fell in love with the beauty of the islands.
In college, I studied Biology with a concentration in Marine Sciences and graduated in 2009 with my first bachelor’s degree in this field. In 2010 I finished a second bachelor’s degree in Wildlife & Fisheries Science. Soon after graduating, I moved to Fort Lauderdale, where I began my professional career on the water working as a mate on different fishing charters. Started off on the drift boat and moved to sportfishing charters after about 6 months. This was the job I had always dreamed of. Living in South Florida, I was able to advance other hobbies such as freediving and spearfishing. The reefs in South Florida are accessible from shore and make for some excellent drift dives from the beach. It was during this time that I decided to pursue my captain’s license. In May of 2017, some friends and I visited St. Croix for the first time. I told my friends that week, “this is a place I could see myself living”. 6 months later I was packing my bags for the move. I’ve been on St. Croix ever since and am happy to call this island home.
