Introducing the Feather Leaf Inn
This beautifully restored 17th century estate in Butler Bay, now called The Feather Leaf Inn, may only be 2 miles north of Frederiksted town, yet feels a million miles away. A history and nature lover’s paradise, this stunning west end retreat by the sea is surrounded by rainforest and lush grounds strewn with native plans and fruit trees. The historic ruins tell a story of the island’s past. Let us show you (picture book style) one of the most unique places to stay on St. Croix, one that promises an experience you’ll always remember.
The Feather Leaf Inn is the transformation of the 262 year-old private sugar plantation at Butler Bay into an incredible immersive experience for travelers interested in a different kind of stay. It embodies the history of St Croix while providing modern conveniences and breathtaking scenery across 19 oceanfront acres.
Back in the Day

An artist’s rendering of Butler Bay Plantation circa 1830 by Frederik von Scholten, when St. Croix was part of the Danish West Indies.

In 1978 Butler Bay was documented and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was a private residence for many years, but without the ongoing maintenance the property required, it fell into disrepair and changed ownership numerous times, remaining a private home up until now.

Then Corina and Ryan bought the property and have taken stewardship to a new level. Over the past few years (and through the pandemic), they have worked tirelessly on restoration. The building restoration at the Feather Leaf Inn is an upcycle project, focusing on re-using what is already there, like fallen mahogany trees, rather than consuming new products or leveling nature to construct new buildings.
And now…
Introducing Feather Leaf Inn

This is what the Feather Leaf Inn looks like now. It is open as an eco retreat that was, and continues to be, transformed into a seaside botanical food-forest and picturesque inn. Feather Leaf maintains its historic Danish architectural appeal while providing modern conveniences.
Here’s a photo tour of the property as it looks today.

No matter where you are on the property, you’ll always be a short walk to the beach and amazing snorkeling and diving. Plus, you’ll be surrounded by lush subtropical forest and fruit trees.

Each room offers a unique, stunning view of the Caribbean Sea, with a private bathroom featuring a shower that also offers an ocean view. Enjoy fiery sunsets in the evening and watch for the elusive green flash. At night, listen to the sounds of nature while enjoying stargazing at it’s finest.
Newly Renovated Rooms and Private Houses

There are 9 guest rooms on the property, divided between the main house and other buildings. In addition to the rooms, the Ocean House (pictured above) is a 1 bedroom historic stone-arch carriage house that sleeps up to five people and has a full kitchen and large patio for lounging. The Dragonfly House has three double queen rooms with ocean-view balconies and the guests share a full kitchen.

Each guest room has a private balcony or huge shared porch, inviting you to sit down and relax. While Feather Leaf Inn is the perfect place to unwind, they do have great Wifi if you need to get some work done.
Retreats and Special Events

With room for up to 30 guests to stay, lots of dreamy shared open spaces, a large room for yoga/classes, and 19 oceanfront acres in a secluded area of St. Croix, Feather Leaf Inn is the perfect place to host a retreat.

Feather Leaf also makes a spectacular venue for weddings and private parties, reunions and events of all kinds. Imagine hosting your event in the shade of towering trees with the Caribbean Sea as the background, in the main house and along the covered front porch with panoramic sea views, or poolside amongst the lush landscaping.

Feather Leaf Inn offers 100% plant-based catering. Perfect for yoga or wellness retreats, you can plan a morning snorkel, afternoon hikes, sunset yoga, and an alfresco plant-based dinner to maintain the meditative atmosphere for your retreat.
Unplug and Recharge

While there is wifi throughout the property, there are no TVs in the rooms at Feather Leaf Inn because this eco retreat encourages you to unplug and recharge. Wander the grounds, lounge by the pool with a book, grab a hammock and take a nap, or snorkel or dive nearby Butler Bay. Relax and enjoy the natural surroundings!
Focus on Sustainability

Feather Leaf Inn promotes sustainable, plant-based living, ecology, history, marine preservation and more. Both Corina and Ryan are passionate about education and solutions for a healthier environment. The property has been planted with over 100 tropical fruit and nut trees and they are working towards solutions in food sustainability and habitat restoration. Feather Leaf is powered with 100% renewable energy, and serves only plant-based cuisine.
As Corina and Ryan say: “If you’re looking for a hotel, book a hotel. But if you’re looking for a Caribbean experience where you can explore and learn, come stay with us at the Feather Leaf Inn.”
