Taxis and Rideshare
Taxis and Rideshare
You’re going to need ground transportation while on St. Croix. We highly recommend that you rent a car for at least a portion of your stay, if you plan to get out and explore St. Croix. For those looking for rideshare like Uber or Lyft, St. Croix now has a ridesharing app, VI Hail, to meet this need. While taxis are available on St. Croix, this option often gets expensive, as rates can be high, so using taxis as your main source of transport for multiple days can really add up! Or, for the patient person willing to wait, there’s Public Transportation provided by VITRAN (Virgin Islands Transportation). Call VITRAN at 778-0898 or 773-1664 for details. Another affordable way to get around is with group taxi vans (marked ‘Taxi’). Economy-minded visitors can pick up a ride from Christiansted to Frederiksted or reverse for $2.50, if they are willing to share with local riders. Departures are from the Market Square in Christiansted and Buddhoe Park in Frederiksted, but the vans can also be flagged down along the route.
