The legal drinking age is lower than most of the United States, but you must be at least 18 to order an alcoholic beverage on St. Croix. Please note, you must be at least 21 to enter the casinos. Be prepared to present proper I.D. for entry or to be served alcoholic beverages.

Residents of the U.S. 21 years of age and older can return to the mainland with five liters of liquor, duty free. A 6th liter can be added duty free if it is a product made in the U.S. Virgin Islands, like Cruzan Rum or Captain Morgan.

Our tap water is perfectly safe to drink, especially when it's filtered as it is in many places. No 'Montezuma’s Revenge' here. When ordering water at a restaurant, you might want to specify bottled or tap.

Conch is very popular here on St. Croix and throughout the Caribbean, but you will only find fresh conch in season November 1st - May 31st each year. Try conch in butter sauce, conch fritters, or conch chowder or callaloo if you get a chance.

Good news! Spiny lobster is available year round here on St. Croix, but it is most abundant usually in the months of August through March. Many of our local local restaurants feature whole lobster dishes that are fresh and delicious!  

The ‘farm belt’ of St. Croix, as well as the rainforest of the West End, afford the island a vast diversity of tropical fruits for you to choose from. To give you an idea of the extent of the diversity, there are over 80 varieties of mangoes alone grown in the Virgin Islands! Some other popular fruits grown here on the island include: coconut, carambola (starfruit), guava, passion fruit, papaya, soursop, sugar apples, banana figs, genips, tamarind, avocado, pomegranate, and breadfruit. St. Croix also produces some amazing vegetables and herbs including a variety of greens from hydroponic lettuce to bok choy, basil, lemongrass, moringa, sweet potatoes, peppers, cucumber, and many different kinds of squash.
