Weekend Getaway to St. Croix
St. Croix is a hidden gem amongst the US Virgin Islands, especially since we are across the Caribbean Sea about 40 miles away from the other islands. There is no passport required to travel to St. Croix from St. Thomas or St. John, and it’s easier than ever to get here, so why not plan a weekend getaway or book a vacation and stay awhile?

While St. Croix is a relatively small island, it’s surprisingly diverse. From the high-desert like landscape and scenic ocean vistas of the East End, to the rainforest and white sand beaches of the West End, and everything in between. If you’re coming for a weekend or more check out our Regional Guides to decide which part of the island is the best place for you to stay. Since St. Croix is large compared to St. Thomas and St. John, and attractions are spread out all across the island, we recommend renting a car while you’re here so you can get around easily.

In addition to all of the activities we suggested for day tripping to St. Croix in our previous blogs, here are some fun things to do and places to explore if you’re staying for more than a day:
Christiansted:
- Take a full day sail out to Buck Island and snorkel the underwater trail
- Book a scuba diving package with a local dive shop
- Take an island tour with Sweeny’s Tours
- Stay at a hotel downtown within walking distance of shops, restaurants, tours and water sports

East End and Gallows Bay:
- Go deep sea or inshore fishing with a local sport fishing charter
- Book a private sailing charter for the day, or for a long weekend, and sail, snorkel, scuba dive, float and relax
- Visit Point Udall and hike down to Jack and Isaac Bays for some snorkeling or beach time
- Stay at The Buccaneer and enjoy a resort experience including golf, beaches, dining, and a freshwater pool
- Play a round of golf or disc golf at The Reef, then enjoy a fresh seafood dinner at Duggan’s Reef
- Take a Sunday hike up Goat Hill, then brunch with a view at Goat, Soup and Whiskey

West End and Frederiksted:
- Unplug and stay at Mount Victory Camp in the rainforest, where you can hike and learn some bush skills
- Go horseback riding in the rainforest and onto the beach with Cruzan Cowgirls, then visit the ruins and labyrinth at Estate Mount Washington
- Get extreme with a Gecko’s Island Adventure ATV tour followed by jet skiing at West End Water Sports
- Book a dive package and dive the Frederiksted Pier, the wrecks at Butler Bay and some beautiful reefs
- Stay at Cottages by the Sea or Sand Castle on the Beach Resort and enjoy a beachfront vacation in a boutique setting
- If you’re here outside of turtle nesting season, visit Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge and spend a day on the white sandy beach and in the calm, turquoise waters
North Shore:
- Stay at The Landing Beach Resort and enjoy a unique cottage experience with scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, and a restaurant all at Cane Bay beach
- Visit the site of Columbus’ landing, then kayak the bioluminescent bay in Salt River at night
- Go horseback riding to plantation ruins and onto the beach near Cane Bay with Equus Riding Tours, then lounge at Cane Bay beach

Mid Island:
- Take a spirited tour by visiting Sion Farm Distillery, home of Mutiny Island Vodka, then heading over to Leatherback Brewing Company to try a flight of locally produced beers
- Visit the St. George Village Botanical Gardens to learn about native plants and stroll through historic sugar plantation ruins
