Island Contessa

From the Gecko is the flagship store of lifestyle brand Island Contessa. Founded in 2014 by Lori Hirons, the chic resort wear, available here and at other fine boutiques, is meant to reflect the Island way of living that she has come to embrace on her home island of St. Croix.  When Lori started Island Contessa, she wanted to create a business that makes women feel good AND look good at the same time.  To that end, she contributes a portion of her profits to domestic violence shelters. Island Contessa offers sophisticated pieces with a casual twist, all constructed with natural fibers, and all made in the USA. It’s a label that our apparel wears proudly, as American-made products help provide jobs and contribute to a more stable future for the entire country.

Bottles Reimagined creates upcycled drinking glasses, candles, and more from discarded liqour bottles. The business began on St. Croix in March 2015, when a local couple discovered that restaurants and bars were simply throwing out the bottles. The US Virgin Islands doesn’t recycle because it is cost prohibitive, so most garbage goes into our landfill.

St. Croix is home to two rum factories: Cruzan Rum and Captain Morgan – so locals and visitors alike consume and discard an untold number of liquor bottles each year. After some experimentation, a viable business opportunity arose in taking these bottles and creating beautiful, upcycled drinking glasses and more from them.  Bottles Reimagined was born.

Frank and Lori Hirons took over the business in January of 2017, and they continue to strive to the same quality standards that the original owners set. While the focus is on using the Cruzan Rum bottles, Bottles Reimagined is also creating glasses from Grey Goose, Skyy, and other assorted liquor bottles.
