In August things slow way down in St. Croix. With temperatures sometimes climbing to 90 degrees, you’re time will be best spent limin’ at the beach, floating in the clear Caribbean Sea or in the pool, snorkeling or diving! Temperatures typically range from the upper 70’s to around 90°F, and while August falls within the wetter part of the year, rain showers are usually brief and followed by sunshine.

While there are only a few events on St. Croix in August, you will still find classes, live music schedules and entertainment in many spots.

August is filled with authentic Crucian experiences. Enjoy live music and local entertainment, explore farmers markets bursting with seasonal produce, or take advantage of the calm seas for snorkeling, diving, fishing, and sailing. The month is also part of the annual Atlantic hurricane season’s busiest period, making it wise to monitor weather forecasts while enjoying the island’s many indoor and outdoor attractions.

Low Season: August falls within St. Croix’s low tourism season. Visitors will find fewer crowds, attractive accommodation rates, and a more relaxed pace across the island. Many businesses remain open year-round, although some restaurants and attractions may reduce hours or close briefly for annual maintenance. It is always wise to check ahead and make reservations when possible.

Local Fruits in Season: Mango, guava, genip, sugar apple, soursop, coconut, papaya, banana, pineapple.

Seasonal Flowers + Blooming Plants: Frangipani trees are in full bloom throughout the island, filling the air with their sweet fragrance. Hibiscus, bougainvillea, and flamboyant trees also add vibrant splashes of color across St. Croix.

Seasonal Wildlife to Watch For: Green, hawksbill, and leatherback sea turtles can often be spotted in coastal waters. Sea turtle hatchlings may also be seen making their journey from nesting beaches to the sea during late summer.

Migratory Birds to Watch For: While many migratory species have departed for northern breeding grounds, year-round residents such as Brown Pelicans, Magnificent Frigatebirds, Bananaquits, and Green-throated Caribs are commonly seen throughout the island.
