With sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s, May is the perfect time to get outside on St. Croix. From the annual Kite Festival and Mermaid Mixer to Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day celebrations, the island is filled with fun all month long.

Average Temperatures: Average daily temperatures in May range from the high 70s to mid-80s (°F).

Average Rainfall: May is part of the drier season on St. Croix, averaging about 9 days of rain. What rain showers do come are on the light side and pass by quickly.

Local Seafood in Season: Caribbean Spiny Lobster, Conch, Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, White Marlin, Dolphin Fish, Kingfish.

Local Fruits in Season: Custard Apple, Carambola, Dragonfruit, Jackfruit, Papaya, Hog Plum. Seasonal

Flowers + Blooming Plants: Century plants bloom in early spring to late summer with clusters of bright yellow flowers. The South American cannonball tree is also in bloom, with fragrant red flowers and giant cannonball fruits.

Seasonal Wildlife: Humpback whales migrate along St. Croix during the late winter months. There are also occasional sights of whale sharks and manta rays.

Migratory Birds: Black-necked Stilt, Blue-winged Teal, Great Blue Heron, and Northern Waterthrush migrate to the Virgin Islands for the winter months.
