July on St. Croix

July continues the warm weather with highs in the high-80’s, so many Crucians spend their time in the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean or lounging around the pool. The 4th of July is celebrated on St. Croix with a stunning fireworks display after the sunsets in Frederiksted. July also offers one of Christiansted’s four annual Jump Up celebrations which line the streets of the historic town with vendors, food and live music as well as a parade and mocko jumbies.

July is also a month that celebrates St. Croix and the people that call the island home with the St. Croix Landmarks Society’s annual “Come Home to St. Croix” event and exhibition. If you are looking for something more kid-friendly, Mango Melee celebrates the delicious namesake tropical fruit with games, contests and vendors at the beautiful St. George Village Botanical Gardens. You can also continue to enjoy a few of the recurring monthly events such as Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted, Jazz in the Park in Christiansted, and Movies at the Fort in Christiansted.

03  | Blackfullness: Emancipation 2024 Art Show

BLACKFULLNESS is a word coined by the late Black feminist Audre Lorde to describe what she loved about her chosen home of St. Croix. Specifically, her beloved majority Black community that provided her with a sense of great belonging and purpose that transcended place. This year's exhibition spotlights the spirit of resistance that is at the core of Virgin Islanders' identity and that is etched into everything that makes Virgin Islands' cultural production so powerful. It calls attention to how Black protest and activism in our region have influenced international Black brilliance and liberation.
