One of the many things to love about St. Croix is how involved the community is with local charities, foundations and causes. While donations are always welcome, as are volunteers, another way to support some of the local charities is by benefit shopping! What is benefit shopping? Several of St. Croix’s charities have stores which sell everything from gently used clothing and household goods to arts, crafts and pet supplies.
Do you like the fun of hunting for a good deal at a thrift store? Then stop by the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix Closet-to-Closet Thrift Shop located at 15 Peter’s Rest. This thrift shop sells gently worn women’s clothing and shoes, children’s clothing and shoes, accessories, jewelry, books and some household items with the proceeds benefiting the organization and its many programs. If you are not familiar with this organization, the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix provides advocacy, programs and services to end all forms of violence and oppression by promoting equality for all. They offer assistance to women, children and men who are victims and survivors of crime, especially domestic violence. So stop in and do some bargain shopping for a great cause!
Are you an animal lover? Then there are a couple of benefit shopping options for you! If you’re in the Christiansted area, pop into The Pet Place. This is the adoption center for the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center and sells pet toys, collars, leashes, and pet lover collectibles. Or, if you are in the Richmond area, you can stop into the Animal Shelter Flea Market which sells previously owned clothing, furniture and household goods. This flea market even boasts a “Cats Fifth Avenue” boutique with “like-new” designer items.
So, make your dollar go farther by supporting the St. Croix community’s charitable organizations, because everybody wins when shopping meets community support! And, if you are doing some spring cleaning, think about taking your re-sellable clothing, furniture and household goods to the Women’s Coalition of St. Croix for their Closet-to-Closet Thrift Shop or to the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center’s Animal Shelter Flea Market. You will give your formerly-loved items a second chance, while helping to raise money for these worthy causes!
