Gecko’s Original ATV Tour Our ATV tour covers 16 miles of tropical terrain. After checking in, getting a safety and rules briefing and a lesson on the operation of the machine, your adventure begins. First you will begin by riding along the West End coastline before heading up into the rainforest. We make a stop at an overlook that gives you fantastic views of the west end. As we continue, we make our way to the top of Mt. Stewart where you get amazing vistas of the north and south shores and surrounding areas. On the return trip, we visit sugar mill ruins from the 1700’s where you get time to explore and take photographs. From there we descend through the Sub-tropical Rain Forest before ending at the Gecko’s office. Cost: $175 per driver, $75 per passenger. We limit the tour to 5 ATVs for a more personalized experience.

Xpedition STX
Gecko’s Xpedition STX is a whole new way to experience St. Croix. On this guide-driven tour you will explore the Virgin Island’s only Sub-Tropical Rainforest, explore mountain top vistas, visit historical sites, and see beautiful beaches. You will learn about the culture, history and wildlife of St. Croix all from the comfort of a rugged offroad vehicle driven by an expert, highly knowledgeable and occasionally humorous guide.
Throughout the tour, your driver will make several stops along the route where you will be allowed to exit the vehicle to take photos and ask your guide questions about St. Croix. Your guide will share fascinating wildlife and historical facts and point out landmarks and places of interest around the west end of the island. This extraordinarily scenic 2-hour expedition starts and ends at our office in Frederiksted.
Each tour can accommodate up to 5 guests in the same vehicle, so it is perfect for families and larger groups. Young explorers must be 5+, with a cost of $100 per person (10+ years) and $75 for ages 5-10.
Sunset Tours
Feel the thrill of adventure as you navigate through the surreal landscapes of the rainforest, passing by sugar mill ruins and panoramic viewpoints that offer the most stunning vistas of St. Croix. At the final stop of this tour on a beautiful West End beach, you will be treated to a champagne toast as the sun sets. Capture Instagram-worthy photos as the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery reds, warm oranges, and dreamy purples, creating a breathtaking backdrop for the conclusion of your ATV adventure. Indulge in an unforgettable sunset adventure in St. Croix with our Sunset ATV Tour.

Where are you located?
Gecko's Island Adventures is located on Customs House Street between King and Queen Streets in Downtown Frederiksted. A good point of reference is that we are located 1 1/2 blocks east of the cruise ship pier in downtown Frederiksted. We recommend entering our business name and not our address into Google Maps when using your phone’s GPS to locate us.
When are you open?
Our days and hours of operation vary for different times of the year. Check our reservations page for available dates and times. We are usually open on cruise ship days, so please do not hesitate to call or make a reservation online.
Is there an age limit?
The age limit is 5 and up to ride as a passenger at guide's discretion. They must be able to sit behind the driver, hold on unassisted and stay awake for the full tour. If you bring your children (under 18) you will be required to sign a waiver for them to ride. (A parent or court appointed legal guardian must accompany the minor on the ATV tour.)
*The minimum age to drive an ATV is 18 years with a valid driver’s license. All drivers under the age of 23 must present a valid, government issued driver’s license at check-in. Photos of driver’s licenses will not be accepted.
Is there a weight limit?
All of our ATV's have a maximum weight capacity of 450 lbs. This is for the driver and passenger combined. Our Xpedition STX has a weight capacity of 1000 lbs. for all 5 guests combined.
* NOTE - You may be weighed at check-in
What if we have an odd number of people?
If there is an odd number of people with children under the driving age, we can arrange for the child to “ride with a guide” for a charge of $75.00. (i.e. 2 adults, 3 children). The maximum weight of anyone riding with one of our guides is 200 lbs. If the odd number includes enough drivers to have the children ride with them, then you will need to purchase machines for all drivers. (i.e. 3 adults, 2 children)
Can I book this onboard my cruise ship?
No, Gecko's does not participate in the onboard booking of shore excursions. Our guests save $$$ by booking directly with us thereby eliminating cruise ship excursion fees.
Do I need a reservation?
Yes. Whether you are vacationing on the island or visiting by cruise ship for the day, making an online reservation is required. We are only in the office if we have tours booked for that day and time.
What if I want to cancel my reservation?
There is a 48 Hour cancellation or rescheduling policy for all reservations. If a cancellation or reschedule request is made less than 48 hours prior to your tour, no refunds or reschedules will be allowed. For additional flexibility, we offer “trip protection” which can be purchased when you make a booking which allows for changes and cancellations up to one hour before the start of the tour.
What type of ATV's do you have?
We exclusively use U.S.-made Polaris ATVs, consistently ranked best-in-class for safety, rider comfort, and reliability. A strict 450-pound limit per machine is enforced.
Do I need any experience to ride?
No. In fact, most of our guests have no prior ATV experience. These machines are fully automatic and simple to drive. You will receive a detailed safety briefing as well as instructions on the operation of the ATV before departing on the tour. With that said, please understand that it is not an easy tour. You must be able to handle difficult terrain and keep up with the group however almost all of our first- timers have no problems handling the machines.
What should I bring / How should I dress?
You must present the credit card used to make the booking as well as the ID of the person whose name is on the booking at check-in. If either is not available, another means of payment must be presented at check-in and the original payment will be refunded. We accept all major credit cards or cash. We do not accept checks.
Bring your camera (phone), sunglasses or eye protection, sunscreen, and water. On dry days, we recommend a face covering for dirt and dust which we have available for purchase in our office. Additionally, sports drinks, bottled water, sunscreen and some very cool tee shirts, hats and other Gecko’s Gear are available for purchase. For our Sunset Tours, we recommend bringing bug spray for our stop on the beach.
CLOSED TOE SHOES and EYE PROTECTION are REQUIRED! Dress comfortably in clothes that are OK to get dirty. Also, dress for the weather. Rain showers are common in the Caribbean but pose no threat to our tours.
What if I am pregnant?
It is entirely your decision. The trails that we are riding on are bumpy. Keep in mind, we are on ATV's. Consult your physician if you have any concerns.
