You must complete an Application for Marriage License and License of Certificate of Marriage from the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands in order to be legally married in the USVI.  These forms may be downloaded from the VI Superior Court, and the completed forms and application/license fees mailed to the court by U.S. Priority Mail. Yes, you will want to work with a local wedding planner throughout your destination wedding planning process.  A wedding planner here on St. Croix can assist you with selecting the perfect wedding venue, finding the right vendors, and addressing all the details for your celebration. They may also be able to assist you with local travel arrangements for you and your guests, including accommodations, transportation and excursions.

Your planner will also be there the day of your special event to take care of everything on property, which could include your ceremony décor, day-of timeline, hair and makeup appointments, and coordinating with the wedding photographers, caters, and more.

Based on what local wedding experts say, we recommend starting to plan your destination wedding at least 10-12 months in advance. Some couples start the planning process 18-20 months before their ideal wedding date, while others have shorter engagements and plan everything within 6-8 months. 

The short answer is yes! If at all possible, it is best if you visit your destination and venue (or potential venues) before you proceed with your wedding plans. Most destination venues try to give you an accurate idea of the visual aesthetics of the property and venue, but if you've never seen it in person there's always a chance it won't live up to your expectations.  And if you're thinking about a beach wedding, you have to pick a beach, and each one is very different.  If you can afford to squeeze a trip into the budget to check out the island and possible venues, you won't be disappointed.
